Local indie punk trio Pat Chow today release their third and final LP, You Are So Valid.

Mainstays of the Boorloo scene for more than a decade, Pat Chow have developed a reputation as one of WA’s favourite local bands for their accomplished songwriting and magnetic live performances. You Are So Valid is the sound of a band going out very much at the top of their game.

The album kicks off with Slow Me Down, released in 2021 as the second single from the LP. It’s a sludgy, grungy number, significantly slower and darker than the rest of the record but a great reminder of some of the heavy (both musically and lyrically) songwriting frontman Ben Protasiewicz has become known for.

It gets better with It Gets Worse, the LP’s lead single released back in 2020 which poetically captures the emotion of the last couple of years with its catchy chorus (It gets worse/It gets so much worse/When you think it’s getting better).

Featuring eight tracks and clocking in at just over half an hour (making it Pat Chow’s shortest LP), not a moment is wasted on You Are So Valid. Middle tracks Noxious Weed and That’s It are both highlights, with the former showcasing the abilities of the band’s rhythm section of Jamie Gallagher (drums) and Andrew Meredith (bass) and the latter proving the catchiest track on the album, reminiscent of Jebediah in their prime.

You Are So Valid closes with the epic, sprawling Eagles Wings, a track worthy of drawing the curtains on one of this city’s most beloved bands of the past decade. If this is indeed the last we hear from Pat Chow, we’re immensely grateful for all the music they’ve given us.

You Are So Valid is out today, Friday 29th July via BlueGreyPink on all streaming services. Pat Chow will be launching the album with a huge show on Saturday August 27th at Lynott’s Lounge in Northbridge with support from Last Quokka, The Spunloves and Supernaked!
